This is what we used to do at school to make dry ice
for experiments such has a cloud chamber to
“see” Radiation
At $170 for a ten pound extinguisher, this seems pretty expensive. How many uses could you get out of one? It says hold open for 20 seconds, so how long can a ten pound extinguisher be held open? I’m thinking this trick would be best for bored kitchen staff and not for home use.
I wonder how difficult it would be, though, to powderize solid dry ice. Maybe you could run it through an ice shaver.
On slide 4 of the gallery it is mentioned “Just don’t eat any hard lumps, which could be leftover dry ice.”
Eek. Now I really don’t want to make this :( plus the price is a bit too much.

It would be cheaper to just buy blocks of dry ice :p
I did this with just crushed dry ice, use a mallet and a pillow case. A whole lot cheaper!
Here’s my write up, I’ll get pictures up soon. ;) Mixer really helps.
Also if you put it in the freezer with the leftover dryice you can psudo-blastfreeze it.

theodore gray is a total hero. i write a column called “bad science” in the UK’s guardian newspaper, and i caught out this Sky TV show called “Brainiac” that was faking its experiments because they were expensive, dangerous, and they couldnt get them to give the results they wanted (explosions).
anyway, the things this TV company faked, theodore had done for real in his back garden. what a guy.
