Abracadabra Bookmark

It may be a solution in need of a problem, still an interesting use of inflatable mechanisms –

The ABRACADABRA bookmark aims to make finding where you left off and opening to that page easier. I didn’t know it was an issue but now I hate my ordinary paper bookmark. The ABRACADABRA contains an air-filled chamber, half of which is flattened by the weight of a book. Squeezing the exposed side inflates the concealed side lift the page just enough for your finger to slip in.

Though only a design concept, I’m guessing real-world use might warrant a longer ‘concealed’ half in order to stay put without slippage.

    Not sure if that’s a good idea. How would one conceal it and still expect it to be useful?

    @Cirano – I’m referring to the portion of the device which lays between the books pages –
    “Squeezing the exposed side inflates the concealed side[…]”
    Purely speculative, but I’d imagine this portion would need more length in order to prevent the device from falling out if/when the inflated exterior piece was nudged inadvertently. This may comprimise its ability to mark a page reliably

    I now see that you said “..a longer concealed…”

    That being said, if the concealed section were to be longer, then it would have to be relatively thinner than the exposed section to account for the volume of air that is transferred from the exposed section.

    Perhaps one shaped like the capitalized letter T where the height of the horizontal section of T is greater than the width of the vertical section of T, but the volumes of the horizontal section and the vertical section are the same. (The horizontal section would be exposed and the vertical section would be held by the book)

    I had pictured the same ‘T’ or perhaps an ‘L’ shape
