Kaylene Kau’s Prosthetic tentacle via jwz. She writes –
For this project we were pushed by our Professor to push the boundaries of current upper-limb prosthetic design. Through extensive research I found that the prosthetic functioned as an assistant to the dominant functioning hand. The prosthetic needed to be both flexible and adjustable in order to accommodate a variety of different grips.

Great idea. I’ve seen recent posts of a suction gripper using coffee grounds and a balloon to grip all kinds of unusual surfaces. That might be a cool addition. I love these prosthetics that exceed normal human abilities.
Is the prosthetic only a result of the research or is patented? I think, a commercial marketing would be a very big help to many people with physical disabilities. Though looks a little bit exotic, but here one can certainly improve with the aesthetics still something. However, it´s a magnificent idea.
I have often thought about having some sort of extra “arm” or “hand” mounted on a vest you can wear, that would hold stuff while you worked on it or something, leaving your other 2 hands free (for those who have both hands). This thing looks like it could fit that application.
