Live Updates: Maker Faire Miami 2017

Maker Faire Miami 2017 is underway! I’ll be posting regular updates right here so you can see what is happening at the greatest show & tell on earth. Be sure to check back often to see the amazing creations from South Florida makers and the fun in sunny Miami.

My favorite picture from Maker Faire Miami 2017 – this family all made t-shirts together – I wanted a group picture, but every time I saw them they were having fun with all the exhibits and interactive elements and I didn’t want to interrupt. Luckily, I caught them as the event was ending to capture this Maker Faire moment.

The robotic battles drew a crowd on Day two of Maker Faire Miami!

The Moonlighter Makerspace pavilion is a great example of how a local makerspace community can curate a great Maker Faire experience!

The LEGO305 group setup a great hands-on LEGO activity, and showed some amazing scale buildings from downtown Miami.

The LEGO305 group is currently building scale models of the buildings around the Miami-Dade College Wolfson campus and hopes one day to have an entire scale model of Downtown Miami.

Love this LEGO wall…one of best things about visiting other Maker Faires is seeing simple, but fun ideas to bring back to Maker Faire Orlando.

Learn to Solder

The learn-to-solder kit was provided by sponsor Jaycon Systems – the LEDs become glowing rocket engines on this space shuttle kit.

and a pottery wheel at the Ceramic League exhibit…

Maker Faire Miami (now a featured Maker Faire!) is located throughout the Miami Dade College Wolfson campus, with parts of 4th street closed and full of exhibits!

One of my favorite interactive exhibits – you can Be the Hamster! to make human-powered snow-cones.

Volunteers make Maker Faire possible – these guys were providing directions as you entered the campus…

Lee Bots are made from recycled parts by Nancy – she drove from Illinois to Miami (apparently the weather is just a bit better in Miami!)

This bot, named “Energia” is going home with me :)
