MAKE Flickr pool member Jeff M built this shop workbench using the instructions from Weekend Projects. In fact, it was our first Weekend Projects podcast (sniff, sniff), from July 7, 2006. Ah, that was a simpler time…
yeah, the simpler days when Bre was still doing the weekend project (coincidentally , around the time Bre was dumped for Kip, I stopped watching) – back when they had a very maker feel to them, instead of a sanitized ‘build this kit’ feel to them…
*sign* – I miss the weekend projects with Bre…
Natesays:
How stable is this bench? It looks like it may have a bit of wobble to it. But, when Bre was screwing on the top, it didn’t seem to move at all.
I just want a solid bench that won’t move when I work on it. :)
zofsays:
I just went in my work room and shook mine to remember and it is quite stable and I am by no means a good carpenter, although I don’t get much use out of it anymore it still makes a great catch all. :)
Anonymoussays:
and a lot of extra weight.
to me, it’s not a bench unless I can clamp a project to it and wail on it with a Stanley #8, or a mallet & mortise chisel.
Natesays:
Thanks — that’s just what I was looking for.
As a soldering station, this looks great. But to beat the crap out of some nails and such, I’m not so sure.
I hadn’t thought about diagonal supports, though. Definitely something to think about :)

Wow, it doesn’t seem that long ago that we built our workbench after seeing Bre’s video. We also made a small platform based on that design so my son could reach the workbench. I’ve always meant to take pictures and post them. I’ll see if I can remember to do that tonight :].
You can also catch glimpses of the work bench in our WREXLabs videos (http://www.wrexlabs.com).
