Makers, take your marks! The countdown has begun: we’re three months out from our 8th annual Maker Faire Bay Area, taking place May 18 and 19 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. Last year, we featured a whopping 900 makers, and 110,000 like-minded folks came out to celebrate the joy of making. This year, get ready for what is guaranteed to be the biggest and best Maker Faire yet. We don’t call it The Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth for nothing!
Are you a maker with an amazing project you want to share? There is no better community to share it with, and our Call for Makers is now open. The application process is quick and painless. And while the call is open until March 15, don’t wait — we encourage you to apply early.
There are four kinds of applications you can fill out:
Maker Exhibit — an all-weekend exhibit space to demonstrate your project(s)
Performer — a scheduled performance, usually on a stage, set lengths vary
Presenter — a scheduled 10, 20 or 45 minute presentation, usually on a stage
Sponsor — companies or commercial entities
Rockets, robots, food makers, 3D printers, sustainability, biotech, interactive art, crafts, kits, music, bikes, puppets, tools, cars, the list goes on and on. The fabric of making has many shades and Maker Faire is a place to celebrate them all. Come on out and show your flavor!
There’s nothing quite like being at Maker Faire Bay Area, completely surrounded by amazing, mesmerizing, inspirational people and projects as far as the eye can see. It’s like being at the Disneyland of making. You can see pictures of the Faire and watch videos from it all day long and it’ll never really come close to being there in person. If you’ve been, you know what we’re talking about. And if you haven’t, do yourself a favor and make it happen. (East Coast folks: Our World Maker Faire New York on September 21 and 22 in Queens is calling your name.)
And if you can’t make it to our flagship Faire in the Bay, where it all started, be sure to check out the full listing of Maker Faires. With international Faires coming up in the U.K., China, Israel, Australia, Canada, Scotland, Taiwan, and Italy, and domestic Faires everywhere from Tampa to Cedar Rapids to Detroit, Pittsburg, Kansas City, and Seattle, chances are you can find a Faire near you.
