Maker Faire Brno: A Growing “Village” Of Makers

Brno is hitting its stride—and makers are leading the charge. Prague’s smaller cousin likes to joke that it’s just a village, but with a big population and some 80,000 students, there’s nothing small about its creative energy. Young people, big ideas, and a healthy appetite for tech, craft, and hands-on experimentation make it fertile ground for making.

Since launching in 2019, Maker Faire Brno has grown to welcome around 7,500 visitors and several hundred makers from across Czechia and beyond. Fab Lab Brno has been a key partner to the Make More team, the folks behind all of Czechia’s Maker Faires, helping build the community one maker at a time. This weekend, October 17–18, Maker Faire Brno returns for its eighth edition—and the momentum keeps building.

The venue is part of the magic. Brno’s Exhibition Halls are made for Maker Faire: striking architecture, soaring ceilings, floods of natural light, a planetarium (!), a sprawling main hall, and plenty of nooks and crannies to explore. Around every corner, you’ll find curiosity in action, clever engineering, creative experiments, and serious maker talent.

Prusa

Prusa exhibit at Maker Faire Rome 2025

Recently at Maker Faire Bay Area, Prusa is putting its maker spirit to work in Brno! A driving force behind the explosion of Maker Faires across the Czech Republic, Prusa is also a showcase for Czech ingenuity, with its integrated, in-house approach to manufacturing proving what happens when you put making at the heart of a business. And this year, there’s a shiny new tool on the line: a Prusa 3D printer! Take part in the Maker Challenge and show the team how a clever idea and 3D printing can give discarded items a second life as useful, functional tools. And just maybe…head home with a new printer to fuel your next big idea.

10 Projects to Put On Your Radar

Maker Faire is where the boundaries between engineering, art, science, and everyday problem-solving get delightfully blurry. These 10 picks from Brno showcase the breadth of the 2026 lineup—from a 3D-printed speaker and DIY electronics to clever uses for garden waste, accessible technology, and hands-on mechanical tinkering. More in the Maker Faire Brno 2026 maker directory.

Acoustika 3D: A speaker you can take apart  What happens when a love of Drum & Bass meets engineering and 3D printing? Meet SIMPLIXITY, a custom-designed 3D-printed loudspeaker. See what’s inside, explore its components, and discover how enclosure design shapes the sound.

Bańki mydlane - Don Komarechka - Swiatobrazu.pl

Sublisica: From bubble to glass  Tiny frozen soap-bubble crystals become the starting point for a surprising fusion of photography, chemistry, and design. When off-the-shelf tools couldn’t do the job, maker Jan Grygerek designed his own engraving machine to preserve these fleeting patterns on glass.

Biouhel: Turn garden waste into black gold  Those piles of pruned branches hiding in your garden? They could become biochar, a porous carbon-rich material that helps soil retain water and nutrients. This project shows how a little ingenuity can turn yard waste into a useful resource with potential long-term carbon-storage benefits.

Bot Challenge

Inside Masaryk University’s computer science labs  Computer science gets physical with a robot that draws using a pen and a marionette controlled by your own movements. These research projects make algorithms, robotics, and human-computer interaction something you can see—and play with. Maker education meets hard science.

KAMaRAD: Radar looking out for road users  Cameras can’t see everything, especially when visibility gets tricky. This prototype from Brno University of Technology combines sensors with millimeter-wave radar to detect potential hazards and help protect cyclists and other vulnerable road users.

Scrappy Races at Ash & Co. Workshops - Make a Wooden Car and Race It!

Bača Customs: Build a wooden gravity racer  No batteries, no problem! Sand, paint, assemble, and customize your own little wooden racer, then put it to the test. This mobile workshop brings together traditional craft, mechanical thinking, and the simple thrill of making a toy that actually moves.

Noise Box : 13 Steps (with Pictures) - Instructables

RaveBOX: Make some noise  Part synthesizer, part sequencer, and all about experimentation, RaveBOX invites you to twist knobs, build rhythms, and discover unexpected sounds. What began as a playful electronics experiment grew into a musical instrument for anyone who likes their creativity with a beat.

High-performance 3D printed RC jet boat with on-board telemetry: Building a powerful 3D printed RC boat powered by a water pump/jet. The project combines mechanical assembly of parts from durable engineering polymers, high-current power supply and development of custom onboard telemetry controlled by the ESP32 chip. The system wirelessly transmits GPS speed, battery voltage and operating temperatures of key components to shore in real time. I will introduce the mechanical layout of the ship, the water cooling system and practical experience from testing

Get Busy + Learn By Doing: Workshops In Focus

Maker Faire Brno isn’t just a place to admire cool projects—it’s a chance to roll up your sleeves and make something yourself. The 2026 workshop lineup covers a remarkable range, from 3D printing and robotics to electronics, space engineering, textiles, and hands-on crafts. Whether you’re a curious kid, a budding engineer, or a seasoned tinkerer ready to level up, there’s something here to spark your next obsession.

Ranging from textiles and space technology to robotics and wild, experimental engineering, the program spans short, 30-minute introductions and deeper sessions lasting 90 minutes or more, with activities for children, teens, adults, and families. Some workshops start with the absolute basics; others let you dig into the tools and techniques used by engineers and designers. Many give you something tangible to take home—a robot, a print, a circuit, or a creation that’s entirely your own.
