The “Puppy Mover Monorail” is a working model train (rare!). The PMM Mark III is composed of five wooden cars, totaling 10′-6″ long. Part of the point of this work of kinetic art is to show that something unique and valuable can be crafted from the most mundane of materials: The original PMM was created from a few cedar fence palings! The PMM evolved into the Mark II (more cars, upgraded graphics), and then into the Mark III, which features finely crafted wheeled bogies (monorail trucks) and a powerful motorized drive train in the locomotive. The PMM III runs on monorail beamway track made from wood 2x4s. The PMM will be displayed on an elevated beamway and may operate for a very minimal run forward and back on a track (puppies not included). Behind the display of the train itself there will be boards showing some of the drawings, photos and descriptions of the building process. A small portion of the display will have information about the Monorail Society, including a photo of one of last year’s hit exhibits, the “Niles Garden Monorail.”
The Maker Faire is May 19 & 20 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. Get your tickets in advance now; avoid the lines and save a few bucks.
