In case you were wondering just how big and widespread the Maker Movement (and yes, thatโs capitalized) has become 10 years in, a glance at the global Maker Faire calendar will give you a hint.
There are Maker Faires happening in an impressively wide variety of locations around the globe just this weekend. And while you may not be able to make it to them (unless youโve hacked teleportation in your garage โ which, if you have, let us know!), we thought you might like a little perspective on your making.
Because when youโre making in your garage, or your yard, or your studio, workshop or makerspace, youโre actually part of a global movement thatโs changing the world as we know it. Whether youโre doing it as a hobby, a lark or a profession, youโre forging the future of how things get made, and how things get done. And when you share it (at a Faire or on Makezine or wherever trips your trigger), itโs even more impactful, because others get inspired, and then? Magic.
So if you were to have cranked that teleportation hack (or hey, a time machine would do), youโd be able to visit Maker Faires in Vienna, Austria, Delhi, India,ย Mohawk Valley,ย New York, Santa Cruz, California, Tyler, Texas, Benicia, California,ย and Gรถteborg, Swedenย this weekend. (Full disclosure: we had to look up where Gรถteborg is.)
Think about that for a second: Austria, India, Sweden, and across the US โ and thatโs on top of the Cairo Maker Faireย a couple weeks ago. And New Orleans, and Saint-Malo, and Edinburgh. Even Eskiลehir.
Impressive, right? We think so. Now, if you want to really be blown away, check out the full list of global Faires. Find one near you, and check out what they have to offer. After all, these gatherings are the physical instantiation of the Maker Movement, folks! And the Maker Movement is YOU.
