If you’re not planning on coming out to Maker Faire Bay Area, why the heck not? Last year we had over 900 maker exhibits and 120,000 attendees. There was something for everyone, from robots to knitting (and even knitting robots), Arduino to fermentation, 3D printing to giant art installations, with rockets, a bike-powered stage, a giant clothing swap, and so much more. Pictured above is the Nautilus Submarine art car by Oakland, Calif.-based collective Five Ton Crane. Below is New Mexico artist Christian Ristow’s Hand of Man hydraulically activated hand capable of crushing a car. (Check out more pics from last year’s Maker Faire Bay Area in this post.)

I'm a word nerd who loves to geek out on how emerging technology affects the lexicon. I was an editor on the first 40 volumes of MAKE, and I love shining light on the incredible makers in our community. In particular, covering art is my passion — after all, art is the first thing most of us ever made. When not fawning over perfect word choices, I can be found on the nearest mountain, looking for untouched powder fields and ideal alpine lakes.
