Stained glass or colored glass works of art have been around forever and the methods to create that glass haven’t changed much since ancient times.

What has changed, are the images themselves as today’s stained glass artists have shifted from predominantly religious themes to those of pop icons such Mario (from Super Mario Bros.), Boba Fet and Optimus Prime.

Craig Kovatch took his inspiration for St. Optimus of Prime, from a print by NINJAINKART titled Optimus Prime Noveau.

Transformers fan Craig Kovatch (@cromas) is one of those who decided to forego traditional stained glass works after seeing a print of Optimus Prime from NINJAINKART.

Craig had never tried his hand at stained glass art before and decided the Prime image was a good place to start, so he signed up for local classes to learn how.

It took Craig 70 hours to draw the template, cut each piece of glass just right and solder it all together. The end result of his St. Optimus of Prime, is exceptional given that it’s his first creation and looks as solid as Optimus prime himself rather than Megatron who was thought to be made of sterner stuff (see video below).
