Phil writes – “Over the past few years, I’ve built up a few battery packs for myself and for other people. Most of them worked fine – in fact, one of the first packs I built over five years ago is still in service, working fine in a torch in the bottom of my cupboard. The big problem with soldering to batteries is that you tend to damage the plastic separator, and the cell seals. This – as you might guess – is not a Good Thing. In some cases, solder can splatter over the cell’s pressure relief vent. There’s a reason the datasheets make a big fuss about the vent – in an overpressure situation, the vent is used to release the excess pressure in the cell. Needless to say, blocking the vent with solder is never a good plan, unless you’re trying to get a Darwin Award, or you happen to enjoy watching your battery pack undergoing rapid, uncontrolled self-disassembly.” Link.

Why doesn’t it list the date and location on the site?
When I go to Ticketweb it posts it as April 22nd and 23rd in the San Mateo, but is that the only one happening, or does it just enter in the closest location? Thanks.

Oh, right.. Totally see it now. Top right, green box…
This looks truly awesome. Now, let’s hope it’s a success . . . so we can give the East Coast some love. ;-)
Will walk-in ticket purchases be possible?
aplumb- as we have space left to fit folks in, we’ll take walk-in purchases. however…the upcoming MAKE vol 05 features a promotion code that has a 50% discount on tickets purchased by march 31. check out the “reader’s corner” column for the code.
i’m thinking of flying in, but have to check prizes, whats the nearest airport?
san fran is the closest, but oakland is here too.
Thanks! I’ll have to play it by ear then; depends on if I can schedule a trip to HQ in Mountain View to coincide.
