Morten Nisker tweeted this serviceable little portable electronics bench he built so that he could carry all of his electronics tools and supplies in a handy carrying case. He realized that he didn’t do that many electronics projects because it was kind of a hassle to scare everything up from far flung corners of the house. This makes everything accessible and organized, including a handy work surface.

At our hackerspace we like to bundle our equipment into kits. A soldering iron kit has the iron, a bottle of water, solder, helping hands, etc.
The theory is, people will use the right equipment if it’s easy to find. And the right equipment leads to better projects and fewer injuries.
I can see, however, we are going to have to seriously upgrade. *nods solemnly*
Now to head out to the table saw….

Paul: It’s not cheating to use an existing case – I would have done the same if I could fit all the stuff I wanted into the one I had.
… to my dilemma of unpacking/repacking my gear each time I have to do some soldering (which seriously eats into the time I have to solder). I’ll be trying my hand at making one of these this weekend.
