I came across this project hanging from a power line in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on North 6th near Bedford. It sort of reminds me of a flying spaghetti monster. Anyone know what this is? I put a few photos on Flickr. Link.

Is it two fish kissing?
I truly hope it’s two fish kissing.
That’s what I thought as well: two kissing fishes!!!
It looks like a pair of lungs. With eyes.
Scary.
It’s a Chinese New Year decoration (February 7, 2008). Yes, it’s two fish, symbolizing good fortune.
The Chinese term for fish, which is yu, is phonetically similar to the Chinese word for abundance – therefore, the fish is an auspicious item to have since it augments your Wealth and Career luck as well…The fish holds an especially unique place in Chinese culture, since this particular animal transcends its physical form to embody almost every important facet in one’s life such as wealth, health, longevity luck, and even immortality.

That’s two fishes made out of chinese knots, the symbol for good fortune. Fish in chinese is ‘Yee’ and that means good fortune and new beginnings. Chinese families who celebrate the chinese new year will hang a few of these knotted fishes to decorate their home.
