PSA: Getting to World Maker Faire

With hundreds and hundreds of miles of subway track throughout New York City, maintenance is definitely a concern. Planned service changes this weekend will slightly effect how visitors taking public transportation to the 5th annual World Maker Faire will arrive to the event site.

Specifically, there is no 7 subway service between Times Sq.-42 St in Manhattan and 74 St-Broadway in Queens. That means there is no direct subway route to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, and a transfer is required.

Always visit http://www.mta.info/ for the latest service status, but Maker Faire recommends taking the E/F/M/R to Roosevelt Av and transferring there to the 7 (take that train to 111 St and walk a few blocks south).

To clarify for non-New Yorkers, the E/F/M/R transfer station is Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av, and the 7 transfer station is 74 St-Broadway, but they are the same station — they are connected — and you can transfer between them for free.

The E train will be operating additional service on Saturday from 9 AM to 7 PM and on Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM, to compensate for the lack of 7 trains between Times Square and 74 St-Broadway.

If you live along the 7 train in Queens between Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av and 74 St-Broadway, free shuttle buses operate in two sections:

1. Queens Blvd (QB) Shuttle buses make all stops between 74 St and Queensboro Plaza.

2. Long Island City (LIC) Shuttle buses make all stops between Queensboro Plaza and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av.

If you live along the G train you will have to exit at Court Sq and transfer to the E or take the shuttle bus to 74 St and transfer there to the 7.

View the full NYC subway map to clarify your point of origin and destination, and check http://www.mta.info/ to view the service status of all trains.

And of course, there are other ways to get to World Maker Faire, including biking, bus, the LIRR, taking an Uber vehicle, or driving.

If you are traveling to World Maker Faire this weekend on the subway and are unclear with the notice above, leave a note below in the comments and I will do my best to monitor this post and provide adequate feedback.
