Go to Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire, Get into Foo Fest Free

108-Signs

The Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire returns for its seventh year on Saturday, August 8. After braving the elements for the 2014 Faire and getting soaked, we decided to retreat to the comfortable cocoon of our favorite indoor space, Trinity’s Pell Chafee Performance Center. The Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire takes place at the same time as AS220’s Foo Fest, and your Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire tickets will get you into Foo Fest (and vice versa).

Thanks to support from our principal sponsor Hasbro and our Kickstarter backers, we’ve got a great Faire in store for you.

Rhode Island is the perfect place for a Mini Maker Faire. It’s where the American Industrial Revolution began, when Samuel Slater snuck out of Great Britain in disguise in 1789. He needed the disguise because you weren’t allowed to leave there if you knew how to spark an industrial revolution. He arrived in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and made machines.

Rhode Island was also where sewing machine inventor George Henry Corliss came in 1844. He turned his talents to improvements in steam engine technology, and made a steam engine so efficient that European manufacturers produced knockoffs, even affixing Corliss’ name to their counterfeits. (If you want to learn more about Corliss and other inventors/inventions, be sure to check out our upcoming book, Inventing a Better Mousetrap, by Alan and Ann Rothschild).

So it’s not surprising that Rhode Island is home to a vital Maker Faire; we hope you can come out and join us this Saturday. Check out all the Makers who will be at the Faire. You can purchase tickets in advance at EventBrite, or buy them at any of the ticket booths we’ll have at the Faire. If you want to pick up tickets in style, back our Kickstarter and choose the commemorative ticket or sponsor badge backer awards!

I'm a tinkerer and finally reached the point where I fix more things than I break. When I'm not tinkering, I'm probably editing a book for Maker Media.
