Score Awesome Electronics eBooks with Humble Bundle

Benefiting Maker Ed to ensure that kids receive engaging learning experiences through making, Make:’s new Humble Bundle deal focuses on electronics, summer projects, and cool stuff for Father’s Day — all at price you want to pay.

Valued at $355 and available through June 29 only, our Humble Bundle Electronics package lets you pay any price you want for ebooks ranging from a complete set of electronics titles to our School’s Out Summer Fun Guide, to Tom Igoe’s IoT phenomenon Making Things Talk, to the best-selling how-to Getting Started with Sensors. That’s 19 books and special Make: magazine issues in all.

As a sweet bonus, everyone who buys a bundle at the average price or above gets $10 off print and $5 off digital subscriptions to Make: magazine.

Electronics are a core maker skill and this bundle particularly celebrates and honors longtime Make: author (Make: Electronics, Make: More Electronics) and magazine columnist Charles Platt upon the publication of the third and final volume of his Encyclopedia of Electronic Components.

While the Encyclopedia‘s Volume 1 covers power, electromagnetism, and discrete semi-conductors and Volume 2 focuses on integrated circuits and light and sound sources, the newly published Volume 3 is laser-centered on sensors.

“The field of sensors has changed out of all recognition during the last 20 years,” Platt says. “The huge market for smart phones has driven down the cost of devices such as accelerometers, while microcontrollers have provided a simple way to process sensor output.

“Different types of sensors have also proliferated,” he explains. “Did you know that there are at least five primary types of temperature sensors? I didn’t until I started writing this book.

“As far as I know,” Platt continues, “no one else has attempted a comprehensive overview of the sensor field. I have to say, it wasn’t easy, as sources of information are widely scattered, terminology is inconsistent, and categorizing sensors is complicated by the use of sensors-inside-sensors.”

Platt’s Encyclopedia project, all of which is included in this special Electronics Humble Bundle package, is unique unto itself.

“I don’t believe that there exists another encyclopedia of electronic components,” he says. “The set of three volumes is unique. For anyone who is experimenting with components, I like to think this Encyclopedia is indispensible.”

Humble Bundle packages always support charity. Make: is glad to continue to share proceeds with Maker Ed, supporting its efforts to spread STEM and STEAM knowledge to students everywhere.

“We are thrilled that Humble Bundle decided to feature Maker Ed as the nonprofit charity on this book bundle with Make:,” says Maker Ed’s executive director Trey Lathe.

“With the proceeds we receive through Humble Bundle, we are able to continue supporting educators and organizations to create engaging learning experiences for youth through making.”

This special Humble Bundle Electronics package lasts for two weeks only, running from 11am PST June 15 through 10:59am PST on Wednesday, June 29. On Wednesday, June 22, two “hidden” books will be revealed, so be sure to check in to see what other treasures you might need to add to your trove. (You will automatically get these bonus books if you purchase the bundle above the median price point before they’re revealed.)

Check out all of the titles currently live and name your price at Humble Bundle. It’s going to be a great summer. Time to learn something new.
