Is it any surprise that the largest Maker Faire in Asia (and among the four largest in the world) is hosted in Shenzhen, China, a city known as the Silicon Valley of Hardware? Organized by renowned hardware supplier Seeed Studio and Chaihuo Maker Space, the first makerspace to have opened its doors in Shenzhen, the fifth annual Maker Faire Shenzhen is taking place this weekend, on October 21–23 at a new waterfront location at the Nanshan Sea World.
The intrepid organizing committee has been working tirelessly through the rains of typhoon season, and in true maker spirit, they’re persevering and preparing for the best Maker Faire Shenzhen yet.

A team from Calgary, Canada’s own MakeFashion has been on the ground in Shenzhen all week working on making three new pieces for their fashion show at Maker Faire Shenzhen this weekend. Always a crowd favorite, here are highlights from their show at the 2015 Faire:
This year’s program looks diverse and amazing, as always, with panels featuring makers, community builders, designers, and more. There are a whole array of workshops scheduled, including wooden knife making, pop-art self-portraits, and Lego remote-controlled workshops, to name a few. There are also a series of inspiring Lightning Talks, with 24 people sharing inspiration for 10 minutes each. Then there’s robot combat, drone combat, an Aki Party, a 3D planetarium, the MakeFashion show, and performances by Gijs van Bon’s Skryf sand writer.
