The Black Hole of Los Alamos

Drew66 sent us in another “Maker’s heaven” store – “The Black Hole of Los Alamos, a recycler of “nuclear waste,” has the world’s most diverse stock of used scientific equipment, electronics, lab supplies, nuclear by-products, surplus items and manterials. We have over 17,000 square feet of pre-owned test equipment and laboratory supplies.” [via] Link.

Excellent! Does anyone know of a place like this in Southern California? Or anywhere else?

Boeing Surplus of Kent, Washington, is quite good. Skycraft Surplus of Orlando, Florida, is pretty neat too.

Being that my mom grew up in Los Alamos I’ve been to this place a few times, it’s well worth an afternoon. They get a good deal of the obsolete equipment from the National Labs and have some really weirdo stuff only a nuclear engineer/Make addict could love. For the modern furniture types I’ve also pulled a few nice Herman Miller chairs from there and even fixed my 74 Vespa in their parking lot using parts I scrounged in the shop. The owner is the nicest guy you could hope to meet as well. Thank you in advance for bringing your tourist dollars to my poor poor state.

Ive been to this place almost every year since I was literally an infant. It is an AMAZING place, and aside from the stuff, the guy that owns it is pretty interesting too. If your ever in the area I highly recommend stopping by, but make sure you have several hours to wade through everything.
