Treehugger roundup…

HugOur friends over at Treeehugger sent us their weekly round up – Getting use out of old credit cards through re-use. Plans for making sandals out of old truck tires. And, we show you how to build yourself a cycle-powered generator…TreeHugger

This week at Treehugger:

So what happens when you are done with a credit card. Do you take it through the shredder? Cut it up withscissors? Maybe you just throw it away whole. In any case, itprobably ends up in the landfill. Well, there is another option: making that credit card into hip jewelry. Online store Uncommon Goods takes old credit cards and turns them into handmade necklaces. If you like the idea, but don’t have the $50 to shell out, I am sure you saavy MAKE readers may even be able to do this on your own.

Rubber Tire Sandal

Have an old truck tire lying around? Well, if you do (or know where you might be able to find one), you can turn that old rubber into a brand spanking new pair of sandals. Not only do you save some of the tire from finding its way to the landfill, you get some super-cheap one of a kind sandals to show for it. Don’t you love being rewarded for doing something good? Get the lowdown with instructions and even a pattern to help you get started.

Finally, we found a way to generate energy with some muscle power and DIY know-how – a cycle-powered generator. Unfortunately, this is not a step-by-step how-to, but there is a wealth of information to help you get started. All you need to do is fill in the blanks. With cold weather right around the bend for a lot of us, maybe you can pedal your way past those heating bills.

That is it for this time, look for more TreeHugger goodies next week.
