From time to time we ask Makers to send in cool shops and stores that are “Maker friendly” in their area, and this one looks like a gem, Devin writes – “If you live near Berkely, California, this is the ABSOLUTE best place to visit for supplies for Making things. They have incredible amounts of junk, both good and weird.” – Link.

I miss that place.
A lot.
Agreed, this place has just about anything and everything, seriously, ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, it’s like some giant mutated garage sale made sweet love with one of those mega warehouse stores.
Your likely to find a decapitated Barbie, still in the original wrapping, sitting next to a vintage klystron tube, down the row from a rack of bellbottom jeans and across the room from an entire victorian bathroom set.
Do shop around the store, and unlike many people who go there, get a price quoted (not much is marked), dislike the price and don’t get it, HAGGLE, I’ve rarely had one of the sales staff give me an issue when I started haggling with them about the price of something unmarked, and we usually come to some mutally agreeable price.
They quote $200 for a door, ask them how about $125, they um and ah, and say $175, you say $150, done, seriously, it’s a giant garage sale, treat it as such.
I am thinking about creating an interactive play structure for my wife’s daycare Urban Ore my be just the place for those funky mechanical interactive devices…hmm…
