There’s no better way to see the maker stripes of a community than at their Maker Faire. This weekend, June 1 and 2, I’ve had a chance to check out the third annual Vancouver Mini Maker Faire in Canada. Creativity and good vibes were all around. Artists, engineers, hackerspaces, crafters, speakers, young and old all came out to show their Vancouver maker pride. There were about 130 makers, and the first day of the Faire saw around 2,000 attendees. Everyone was super enthusiastic and welcoming, and a good time was had by all.
For folks who don’t know, Mini Maker Faires are community-organized DIY festivals that brilliantly showcase the local flavor and offer networking opportunities. To learn how to make a Maker Faire in your community or to see the calendar of Faires, head to the MakerFaire.com.
