Swedish industrial designer Erik Björk built this fantastic Do It Yourself Wooden Bicycle. [via BikeHacks]
The Do It Yourself Wooden Bicycle is just about everything industrial design don´t is. It is very easy to copy an reproduce. With a trashed bike to get components from and a nearby hardware store anyone can build it with normal hand tools. The look is quit rough and unconventional making it safe from thieves and if you miss something on the bike like a parcel carrier just build it the way you want it. The Do It Yourself Wooden Bicycle even got a name that is to long to be commercial.
The bike is to be seen as a first test version of a open source project. Please build your own, if you want drawings of the bike for an initial help just mail me at diywbc@erikbjork.com

Sweet — but wouldn’t want to lug it up to a 4th floor walk-up!
Bikes almost always have the front wheel slightly ahead of a straight line through the front fork axis. It makes the bike tend to ride straight. Too much makes it hard to turn. Too little makes it unstable. It looks like an easy fix: mount the front axle on the front of the fork instead of the end.
