Real Virtual Car

virtcar.jpgOne is a mechanical genius, the other is a platform game hacker. They decided to join forces and turn a racked car into a simulation. They connected the car’s pedals, steering, gearshaft, to the game platform. It’s on hydraulics to turn the car in curves, there’s a fan to increase the wind when the speed is going up, and they install a small engine to make the sounds. Even the gauges work! Link.

this is a very impresive make.

It reminds me of the Namco Ridge Racer Full Scale arcade machine – that was cool – a real Mazda MX5 (Miata in the US) parked in front of a large screen being driven by a Ridge Racer arcade machine. Really hard to play, as the steering was geared to be realistic (i.e. nearly 3 turns lock to lock) rather than like a video game (270 degrees lock to lock).

I would think that this project would play much better – and the fan and engine idea would be a very nice touch
