We posted about Cathy Kasdan’s plastic bag dresses earlier last year here and they were featured in CRAFT: 04. Cathy sent a note to Threadbanger about her recycled plastic shopping bags dresses and we had to share the love again for these beautiful pieces. You can see all the photos in her Flickr set. She didn’t purchase any materials to make the dresses, rather collecting bags at trips to the grocery store and bag donations from friends. She knitted, woven and melted plastic to make fabric as a part of her thesis project for her Masters in textiles. Link.

Those dresses are very cool! I saw them at a show and was impressed with the amount of work put into them, especially since most people don’t give their plastic bags a second thought after unloading their groceries. I like that you can see where the bags come from (notice the Target logo on the dress on the right) and that she uses the retailers like other people use fabric designers. Even the buttons and belt buckle are plastic – the credit card kind!
