You know, the book that Gromit is always reading.

Kenn Amdahl wrote one of my all-time favorite books: There Are No Electrons: Electronics for Earthings, a humorous and just plain bizarre introduction to electronics. It reveals such unknown “facts” as: all the major electronics pioneers were secretly Norwegian, that little Gremlins called “Greenies” are what high school science teachers insist on calling “electrons,” and that the magnetic lines of force in induction are actually the wake of a duck named Bruce.

As I said, bizarre. But one of the best introductory books on electronics. Amdahl uses a fascinating story-driven technique of teaching to drill the ideas behind electronics into the noodles of right-brained types like myself. Worked wonders for me.

I just stumbled onto your post, which is how I find most things and wanted to say thanks. I continue to make my (very modest) living by selling these books, so any mention of them means I can say, “YES! I will have fries with that!” one more time. So thank you.

Beyond the crass commercial aspect, it warms my heart to learn that anyone has read something I wrote and remembered it. I hope that the universe gives you something equally pleasant.

      Kenn Amdahl
