Make: Projects – Homebrew stirplate

If you’ve ever used a magnetic stirplate before, you know how handy they can be. Scientific equipment is often way, way more expensive than it should be, and if you’ve ever priced commercial stirplates you may have been shocked at what some companies get for a device that is, ultimately, just a motor with a couple of magnets on it. Fortunately, if you just need stirring and not heating, it’s easy to build a homemade magnetic stirplate that will perform just as well as the commercial versions and costs almost nothing.
