David sent around this book Wholly Irresponsible Experiments to our team, I haven’t heard of this book (has anyone else?) – Here’s a review of it by Ian @ the Fortean Times –

Science can be looked at in two ways, I suppose: as a selfร‚ยญless quest for knowร‚ยญledge in the servร‚ยญice of human proร‚ยญgress; or as a really good excuse to blow shit up. This book sits firmly in the second camp, and as I make a living orgร‚ยญanร‚ยญisร‚ยญing this kind of stuff for public audiร‚ยญences at one of the UK’s hands-on science centres, it was inevร‚ยญitร‚ยญable that Wholly Irresponsร‚ยญible Experiร‚ยญments would land in my in-tray.

So, is it any good, then? Well, yes, but not actuร‚ยญally wholly irresร‚ยญponsร‚ยญible. It comes with instร‚ยญructร‚ยญions that tell you to put the match out after lightร‚ยญing a candle and does not employ anyร‚ยญthing more esoร‚ยญteric than houseร‚ยญhold ingredร‚ยญients. It does not featร‚ยญure anyร‚ยญthing with a blast radius, or the potentร‚ยญial to be structร‚ยญurร‚ยญally damร‚ยญagร‚ยญing or a gross vioร‚ยญlatร‚ยญion of health and safety law.
