With the recent internet outages in Egypt, some were wondering if there really is such a thing as a giant switch that allows governments to shut down the internet. Well I don’t know about that, but there is a really, really BIG switch in the Clocktower Gallery in lower Manhattan – the exhibition says it ended last month, but I spotted it last night (you can’t exactly carry it out of the room and down the elevator!). It’s currently in the “off” position, and when turned on emits noise that any circuit bender would find mesmerizing! The guts of the “toy” are visible behind it.
