Building an All-Terrain Electric Scooter

If you’ve visited World Maker Faire in New York the past couple of years, likely you saw the cluster of MIT students and their excellent electric cars and scooters, built for classes and simply for fun. One of the vehicles that caught my eye this past year was Ben Katz’ ferociously cool all-terrain scooter, a Terminator-esque monstrosity of milled steel, shock absorbers, and knobby rubber tires.

Ben details the version he brought to Maker Faire in 2012 as well as the updated 2013 version. He covers everything from wiring the battery pack to playing around with different configurations of shocks. At one point he attached a milk crate to the back to haul cargo.

If you’re at all interested in building your own electrical vehicle you definitely need to read Ben’s blog posts.
