MAKE subscriber Todd Harrison sent us the link to this project he did, retrofitting a car jumper box with a 12v riding lawn mower battery instead of the $75 (plus shipping) drop-in replacement. The modded version cost him about $35.
The ‘official’ APC UPS (Un-interruptable Power Supply) batteries cost upwards of $50 for a single battery replacement, or $70 for a two-battery unit. But the very same gel batteries themselves can be had for around $20 to $25 each.
Good to know someone else has found a good mod for these.
