Ordering parts is sometimes the hardest part when doing projects, Digi-Key recently updated their site making searching for things a little easier… Eventually we’ll do a screencast of a parts ordering session to show how “fun” it can be looking for the best and cheapest parts. [via] – Link.

I don’t know!
Yesterday the page kept on timing out every time I tried to search!
I’m not sure what their site used to be like, but I didn’t see anything noteworthy with the searching or ordering process. If you want to see something neat.. you should check out http://www.mcmaster.com/
They have some neat search functionality and a very streamlined ordering process as well. Their latest is like an instant find function that matches what you are typing to possible matches and makes real time suggestions and even brings up pages containing such products before you’re even done typing. It’s not always 100% but it does give you an idea of how many products they actually carry (435,000+).
looks like digikey couldn’t take the MAKE: traffic surge – site unavailable.
Digi’s parametric search is awesome, Mouser is just now starting to catch up. The most important metric sometimes is price, and to the best of my knowledge, neither engine lets you search or sort based on price yet. I wonder why that is?
