Mobile radios are like DIY cellphones. They can communicate across the world without the infrastructure of cellphone carriers or the internet. And sometimes, there’s a lot of satisfaction in being able to do something all by yourself.
Here I am at Hamvention 2010 in Dayton, Ohio checking out all of the mobile radios. There was everything from pedestrian mobile, to ham radio backpacks, to bicycle mobile.

I’m enjoying this series, I hope there’s a lot more in store? I made it to this years Hamvention for the first time in over 10 years. I feel like there’s a lot more to it that I didn’t experience. I had lots of fun in the flea market area and it was interesting to look around inside too. I’ve never visited the forums or done anything else like that. I did see a guy with an awesome antenna on his back. Thing must’ve been 15-20′ easy. It was brushing the leaves on the tree as he was walking by, it was magnificent.
