has been hand-making similar constructions from old instruments.
He did a presentation at the Austin Dorkbot meeting, and I was really impressed at his craftsmanship and how well these worked.
I did a similar thing, though nowhere near as elegantly or beautifully, about five years ago. I replaced the needle of a gramophone with a 3.5mm audio jack, and fitting the speaker within the soundbox.
