Sean was looking for a service that would automatically call his phone with a text to speech message at a specified time “I would like to be able to program my computer to call my cell phone or a regular phone with text to voice messages–eg reminders, important appointments or wake up calls and for pranksters…The catch is that the other person should not require the same software to receive the call. Anybody know of any software that does this univocally?” I found a web service that does this (some free and some fee) here. I usually use my built in alarm clock on my phone, but it doesn’t of course talk to me or call anyone else.

I just use Yahoo! Calendar. It has the ability to send reminders to an email address, yahoo instant messenger, or a mobile device.
If it’s something particular important, I have it sent to my cell phone.
Text to speech, no, but you can send text messages via an email to [xxx-xxx-xxxx]@teleflip.com. Set up a cron to do it.
Wouldn’t using the “organizer” function be cheaper? Hard to do a remote “prank” though…
The service iPing (www.iping.com) does many of these things. I don’t know how the price compares with channelcall, but it is quite versatile. They used to let you send either text-to-speech or a voice recording (they would give you a call, and you would record your message over the phone).

I use http://www.telepixie.com for wake up calls, reminders, etc.. They do TTS and a lot more and best of all they are free!

I’ve been using Telepixie for about a week and must say that for a free service they are extremely reliable. The surprising thing is that there are no hidden charges, it’s not a trial period and they don’t spam you.
They’re even talking about taking the ads out of the calls and adding group call features so you can contact your whole team or congregation with one call.
Gotta love the Internet!
