MAKE Flickr photo pool member Steven and Sarah write – “Exploring micro-controllers with the Arduino NG development system. Seen here running in standalone mode with a 9V battery. Arduino makes embedded programming fun and easy by bringing together a clean and simple hardware and software development environment.

Here, I’m messing with reading analog input from a 10k potentiometer and PWM (pulse width modulation) of leds to produce variable brightness.”Link.

I bought my Arduino two months ago, and boy am I enjoying it. I’ve wanted to try microcontroller programming for some time, but was put off by the cost of a development board, programmer, and software. The Arduino’s $30ish pricetag made me take the leap. I now have the Arduino commanding a Rumble Robots drive unit. Once I get some sensors working, I’ll have a legit autonomous robot–it’s a dream project!

Hey, that’s me! That picture is part of my preparation for setting up an RFID doorlock system. It’s based on the free RFID Toys chapter at but I’ll be using an arduino/atmega8 setup and Limor’s/Ladyada’s Minty Boost 5v power system to run it.

I’ll post more pics to the make group as I go about getting my RFID implant, and start building the board and installing. I’ll also include a link in the pics to my blog where I’ll include schematics and arduino code.
