Have you ever looked at your gadgets and thought, “I wish I could add [insert feature here] to my phone!” or “This tablet would be a lot more convenient if I could attach a kickstand.” We use technology everyday, and yet we’re left to the mercy of product designers (or the more dreaded “design by committee”).
Well, most people are left to that mercy. You, the makers, aren’t.
That’s why at this year’s Bay Area Maker Faire I want to bring three of your most innovative and ingenious DIY versions of our favorite consumer tech items up on stage to be put to the test. Think you can build a better cell phone? Show me. Want to create a more precise fitness gadget? Let’s run it through its paces!
The winner, as picked by yours truly (with the help of the audience), will win a spot in the pages of MAKE magazine. Are you up to the task? Enter here.
Don’t miss Veronica’s DIY Consumer Tech! competition at Maker Faire Bay Area: Center Stage, 6:30 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013.
Veronica is the co-host of Revision3’s popular technology show, Tekzilla. Most recently, you can see her on Fact or Fictional (a look at science and tech in pop culture) and Gizmodo: The Gadget Testers on BBC America.
