In the Maker Shed: Xbee Series 2

The XBee XB24-Z7WIT-004 Series 2, from the Maker Shed, improves on the power output and data protocol over the Series 1. It takes some time to set up the ZB family of modules but when you do they allow reliable point to point, mesh, and compatibility with other ZigBee compatible networks. Since they use the Zigbee protocol, they are not compatible with series 1 modules, which use 802.15.4. Want to learn more about wireless networking and how to use these modules? Check out the book “Building Wireless Sensor Networks” by Robert Faludi. You’ll be an Xbee whiz in no time!

I am the Evangelist for the Maker Shed. It seems that there is no limit to my making interests. I'm a tinkerer at heart and have a passion for solving problems and figuring out how things work. When not working for Make I can be found falling off my unicycle, running in adverse weather conditions, skiing down the nearest hill, restoring vintage motorcycles, or working on my car.
