Antonb of Lets Make Robots built this excellent looking five-degree-of-freedom arm using pieces of Polystyrene plastic, that he laid out and cut to shape by hand. It’s a great reminder that you don’t need access to complex tools to make cool things; he mentions that the whole thing was designed on paper, without using CAD. Looks great!
