By way of Hack A Day comes this hexapod robot that does CNC fabrication.
Only recently has [Matt] started playing with CNC. First, he did a pen plotter proof of concept. Now The bot can mill 3D surfaces in polystyrene. It’s still a little coarse and will probably always be a bit imprecise since it’s not bolted down. He’s also still planning to convert it from standard 1/8inch bits to 3mm router bits.
Hit the link above to see what the bot is working away on.

if you wanted a title that makes sense you should probably write ‘mobile robot does CNC machining’….
Great robot though
i know how annoyingly complex it sounds, especially with adjusting the routers, but i think a multi-bit rotating router head for more precise machining sounds like the next step. also, some type of suction system on each foot for stability?
to nitpick: i think you mean coarse not course
‘bot is awesome, i’d love to use a similar setup for graffiti-esque projects
I’m imagining a hexapod bot with high friction feet that would climb a wall and route gargoyle faces into a building facade. Or maybe high relief grafitti?
