Lights for Life Challenge

What is the future of connected lighting design and how will it improve our lives?

Calling all Makers!

Make: has partnered with GE and Hackster.io to bring you this really cool challenge, and weโ€™re excited to offer you an invitation to participate. The future of lighting isnโ€™t just about illumination, itโ€™s about intelligence, folks. Because the average home has 45 light sockets with unobstructed vantage points and a power source, lighting is uniquely positioned to be the โ€œglueโ€ of the smart home.
This is a call to inventors, hardware developers, and designers to bring your vision of intelligently connected lighting to life! Show us your bright idea โ€” like how to know when your kids arrive home from school while youโ€™re still at work, or how to closely monitor an elderly parent, or how to locate your dog when itโ€™s time to go for a walk. Youโ€™re encouraged to consider lighting from every angle, from table and floor lamps to light bulbs and Bluetoothยฎ-enabled devices to voice-activated illumination or lights triggered by temperature sensors.

Make something great.

Youโ€™ll be working with C by GE, the cutting-edge leader in affordable, Bluetoothยฎ-enabled LED bulbs. The winning design will become an extension of the C by GE product family.
The C Life bulb gives you an easy way to illuminate your intelligent home by day, while C Sleep, with its three distinct settings, makes for the perfect bedroom light. GE is developing its own app too, allowing people to program C by GE to interact with smart devices throughout the home.

What will your C by GE invention do?

The winning designer will be awarded $25,000
and will be showcased in New York at World Maker Faire!
