This impressively complex deployable spaceframe was designed by Studio Dror. It’s called Volume.MGX and was printed via selective laser sintering (SLS). I guess hanging it over a light bulb and calling it a “lamp” makes for better video than setting a piece of glass on it and calling it a “table.” Still, fun to watch it squish and un-squish.

CHROMAtex, an installation by NYC artist collective SOFTlab at the Bridge Gallery. Interestingly, the artists funded the installation via Kickstarter and created it by printing each tile on photo paper, laser cutting it to the correct shape, then attaching it to its brothers with standard binder clips. Sculptor Dustin Wallace, whose intricately machined Transformers for grown-ups and sheet metal origami robots I have been raving about for some months, now, is at it again. These are a selection of choice work-in-progress shots from his latest build, called Sentry. Besides the arm blades, when finished, it will have hoses and canisters containing liquid on its back and a glowing LED in the eye.
