Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich created this installation, simply called The Swimming Pool, for The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan. A 10cm layer of water over a piece of glass separates above from below. It must be a pretty serious piece of glass; some back-of-the-envelope math based on the published dimensions gives 1,100 kg (2400 lbs) of water that it has to support. Plus its own weight. Artist Chris Conte created this gorgeous custom microphone stand for Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace (Warning: Auto-play music). More info at Wired. [via Dude Craft]
German design group Sonice Development GmbH built this large-scale printer, called the Facade Printer.

We covered artist Peter Root’s smaller Low-Rise staplescape back in 2009. It’s only about 1.5 m2. His newest work, Ephemicropolis, shown uppermost, is a full 18 m2. Be sure to check out the making-of video at his website. As impressive as Root’s models are, I have to admit I am almost equally charmed by Tofi Stoler’s miniature of Manhattan Island, shown immediately above. [via Boing Boing]
