Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth — a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the maker movement.
Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these people come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned.

First in a series of shorts from Larchmont Films promoting Brighton’s first Mini Maker Faire to be held at the Brighton Dome on 3rd September (this Saturday). Featured here is Brighton programmer, Jason Hotchkiss, in front of the Brighton Pier demonstrating how to make music from lava lamps. Jason and the Mini Maker Faire team are passionate about sculpting or creating something unusual from the everyday.
Machinist Bob Schneeveis along with Grant Grundler made the Solar Electric Robot Chariot. Powered by the Sun, the chariot is pulled by an anatomic machine that walks on wheels to lengthen its stride. Machined almost completely out of metal, the mechanics of this art car are shown at Maker Faire Bay Area 2011.
Carlos Nielbock is a Master Craftsman in architectural ornamental metalwork and design. He started his craft as an apprentice in a German monastery, then trained further in the ancient Journeyman tradition. In this video he shows his replica of the 1862 World’s Fair welcome gate, his Low Altitude Wind Turbine, and passion for ancient bronze castings from Benin.
ITP students Michell Cardona and Nelson Ramon Ramirez created several different oscillating wind generators before settling on something that works the best. Similar to the Humdinger in function, their Linear Wind Electricity Catcher works by fluttering a magnet in close proximity to a transformer, which translates kinetic energy to electrical energy after being rectified.
The Systematic Annihilation of Helpless Objects Via Robot is an arena full of machines that spew fire and destroy home appliances and other detritus that would normally be relegated to the trash. Justin Gray‘s creations are built from and inspired by vintage machinery. They pump their metal muscles for the crowd in this video from Maker Faire Bay Area 2011.

Jimmie Rogers teaches one person at a time how to solder at Maker Faire Bay Area 2011. For only one dollar, participants can buy a kit with a small PCB, a battery, and flashing LED all mounted on a cute robot pin. Jimmie and Mitch Altman have taught thousands to solder at Maker Faire over the years, and we love that its become tradition.
