Makers from all over the world are converging on New York City for World Maker Faire New York this weekend at The New York Hall of Science in Queens. We’ll be announcing the winners of the first annual MAKE Magazine Industry Maker Awards and meet makers who’ll show at the Faire on a special Friday episode of Make: Live.
The Creative Capital—this name sums up what fuels innovation and progress in Providence. From its educational institutions with strengths in engineering and design to its innovative culture of startups, the people of Providence have been hard at work making things for centuries. We’re grateful, excited, and humbled that Mayor Angel Taveras has honored the Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire and the Providence maker community with this proclamation.
Come out to the streets of Providence (Steeple Street, between Canal and North Main, to be exact) and join us at the Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire between 2pm and 10pm tomorrow. Come join us at the Atlanta Mini Maker Faire this Saturday, September 10, 2011. The event starts at 10am on the Georgia Tech campus, and over 55 Makers have registered to show of their creations, introduce their organizations, and share details, time, and conversation with their fellow makers.
We just got our first peek at the 2011 Makeys trophies, designed and printed by our pals at MakerBot Industries, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. Thanks to Jonathan Monaghan for the design work, Matt Griffin for running the printers, Keith Ozar for coordinating it all, and everybody else at MakerBot who helped out. Naturally, the STL files are available on Thingiverse to remix at your leisure. As you can see, “Makey” is built Mr. Potato Head-style, but right now he’s a bit short on accessories…
