10 Favorite Things at Portland’s Mini Maker Faire

My husband and I had the opportunity to attend (representing GeekMom) the Mini-Maker Faire in Portland, Oregon over the second weekend in September. The Faire was held at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) which has been part of Oregon for more than 65 years. A side parking lot was packed with all sorts of activities for the weekend. We didn’t bring out kids, but Jonathan Liu of GeekDad attended with his children and experienced different projects than we did. Here are ten of our favorite things from the weekend.

Making Hundreds of Unique Mini Maker Faire Posters With Processing

We needed a poster for the Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire this year, so I decided to use a Processing sketch to do the work for me. By using a generative program I could make each poster unique, within the design constraints of the event. The key is to use Processing’s PDF library to record a printable version of everything you’re drawing on the screen. When you’re done, you just bring the PDF to your local copy shop or fine art large format printer.
