Crafty Chica points us to this amazing button portrait of Frida Kahlo created by Ashley of Lil Blue Boo. It took eight hours to complete, used six tubes of industrial glue, and is made up of more than 2,000 buttons. The time lapse video of the piece coming together is really fun to watch.
Ed Rogers lives next to active train tracks, which leads to a lot of noise in his bedroom when a train passes and the windows are open. Like any good maker, Ed solved his problem with a homebrew automatic window closer. He attached a pair of linear actuators to the windows with 3D printed brackets. These actuators are controlled by an Arduino with an H bridge and can be activated by a button on his nightstand. Not only that, but the project also integrates a motion detection system to close the windows automatically when a train is passing.
Artist Gregory Kloehn likes to remix the world around him. His recent dumpster conversion explores what a home can be by completely gutting a standard garbage dumpster and refitting it with a modern interior complete with a toilet, water, electrical, hardwood floors, and a cooktop. He even built in a hand-crank roof that lowers in order for you to remain stealthy to the outside world.
