One of the great things about working at MAKE is the inspiration I get from seeing a parade of new projects and bright ideas everyday. The exposure to so much creativity have given me license to make something of my own. (I just need to find the time).

Then there are those projects that make me think “I should have done that.” Such was the case with the simple, but ingenious Foodie Dice, a Kickstarter project that’s already 413 percent over its fundraising goal with another 29 days yet to go

Making Fun: Computer Vision Hair Trimmer

Part of what makes me a maker is that I prefer to do things myself when I can, including cutting my own hair. The tricky part, though, is cutting a good line across the back of the neck. I set out to build a trimmer that I could blindly run up and down the back of my neck, and have a computer vision system automatically turn the trimmer on or off in accordance with its position.

10 Favorite Things at Portland’s Mini Maker Faire

My husband and I had the opportunity to attend (representing GeekMom) the Mini-Maker Faire in Portland, Oregon over the second weekend in September. The Faire was held at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) which has been part of Oregon for more than 65 years. A side parking lot was packed with all sorts of activities for the weekend. We didn’t bring out kids, but Jonathan Liu of GeekDad attended with his children and experienced different projects than we did. Here are ten of our favorite things from the weekend.
