The weather is getting colder, the malls are packed with shoppers, and everywhere you look, lights, garland, and Christmas trees are popping up. It’s time to put your maker skills to use contributing to the festive cheer with your own holiday ornaments and we have a contest to help encourage you to do so!
Last year we held our first annual 3D printed ornament contest and our readers shared with us nearly 100 incredible ornaments. Santa Makey’s, tea light villages, and an abundance of snow flakes all grace the collection. Of course, 3D printers are not the only digital fabrication tools in our maker toolboxes.
This year, we are expanding the contest to include all computer controlled machines such as CNC machines, laser cutters, embroidery machines, vinyl cutters, along with 3D printers. We believe this expansion of tools will help our talented readers show off even more of their creativity.
You can submit your designs to this year’s contest through our community platform where you can also find all of the rules and judging criteria. The contest begins today and closes on Monday December 19th, so you only have 2 weeks to show us what you’ve got! Judging will be completed by members of our incredible digital fabrication testing team who were responsible for creating this year’s buyer’s guide.
For the past 2 years, my Christmas tree has been decorated exclusively in ornaments my family has made, many of them on 3D printers and laser cutters. I hope this contest can help bring this tradition of homemade ornaments to you and your family also!
