This spring we asked the Princeton University community to submit imagery produced in the course of research or incorporating tools and concepts from science. The response was overwhelming: more than 200 entries from nearly 100 individuals in 15 departments. We selected 55 of these works to appear in the 2005 Art of Science Exhibition. These are Barbies modded to look like celebrities. Previous we covered the Barbie jewlery as well as the Lord of the Rings style D&D Barbie mods. I think these dolls are becoming great canvases as opposed to just being tossed. Link.
The Beatbox was designed and made by Andy Huntington. It is a physical programmable drum machine. It is on display as part of the RCA Interaction Design Show from the 23rd of June to the 3rd of July (excluding July 1st). They have a video of it on the site- Link.
You’ve heard of bubble wrap, and the boy in the bubble — now, here’s a datacenter in a bubble. I work for a government agency that, like most, is trying to cut back some costs, and one of those costs is a REAL datacenter. So, we decided to wrap the whole thing in plastic (including two 1.5 ton ACs). The room hovers about 83 degrees, however, the racks in the bubble (ok, more like a termite tent) stay about 10 degree cooler. [via] Mirror, Link.
The Swedish site 99Mac has a gallery of all the Apple knockoff products at the monster Computex tradeshow in Taiwan earlier this month. There were quite a lot. It was a nice day to be an underdog at the 50th Lancaster Soap Box Derby on Saturday. Caylee Warner, 10, of Berne Union Elementary, proved that as she cruised her way through the preliminary rounds of the event at Derby Downs. “She is just a real competitor,” said Cathy Warner, Caylee’s grandmother. The cars are a wooden and metal creation built for the children by friends or family members and sponsored by local businesses or organizations. “It took us about a month to build her car,” said Casey Warner, Caylee’s dad. “I gave it to her as a Christmas present.” [via] Link.
